Pentagons | Protection Spell

‘Pentagons’ is a series of ink paintings that explores five-sided shapes that slip between pentagons and naive houses. The paintings explore the legacy of an agricultural ritual wherein five sticks are placed around the boundary of land at the beginning of the growing season to protect crops and encourage yield.

The folkloric myth is also explored in the cherry wood sculpture ‘Protection Spell’, which binds driftwood sticks together with gold thread.
